Climate Change is Caused by Humans? Environment Canada!

Environment Canada II

Can we know that human activities are causing this climate change?

We received an interesting question on Twitter about where it comes from? How do we know climate change is caused by humans? we will also discuss environment Canada. You see, humans are fascinating species. We create music, art, food, and so much more including waste.
But we are also responsible for current episodes of climate change.

How and why is this true? Let’s ask one of our climate change experts about climate change and the environment of Canada, Dr. Chris Dirksen. So our question to him was, how do we know that climate change is caused by human activities?

Dr. Chris Dirksen

                                                                               Dr. Chris Dirksen.

Well, we know the concentration of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere is increasing with a rapid growth rate, and the burning of fossil fuels through human activities is the primary driver of this increase.
A higher concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere results in more heat being trapped by the atmosphere and resultantly the warming of surface temperatures.

Basic Physics of Climate Change

So these basic physics of climate change are very well understood, and they are confirmed by very careful measurements of greenhouse gas concentrations and surface temperature that are made around the world.

While these simulations show no evidence of climate change, no evidence of warming temperatures. So, simply put, climate models only simulate the observed climate change if they include human activities which produce greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. So observations play a vital role in tracking climate change and understanding the rate of change. And climate models are really useful tools for telling us a little bit about why, how climate change has occurred, and what we can expect in the future.

Evidence is Clear

So the evidence is clear. Climate change is caused by human activities, and international coordinated action on greenhouse gas emissions is needed to reduce the intensity of climate change in the future. So, thanks for your question and keep those climate questions coming in. The Industrial Revolution, while amazing in itself, definitely did a number on our planet. Thankfully, we have ways to understand our environmental issues using tools like climate models.

With summer set to officially begin tomorrow, a heat warning has been issued for Toronto in the GTA into southwestern Ontario ahead of two days of extreme temperatures and humidity Tuesday and Wednesday. Daytime highs are expected to hit at least 33 degrees, and when you factor in the humidity, you’ll be feeling like the low forty. And we won’t feel much relief if you crack open the windows overnight.

Lows will still be in the 20s. It’s all thanks to a ridge of high pressure that’s been fairly stationary over the US.

This heating layer has put a lid cover on our atmosphere. The upcoming Wednesday night will bring some relief by Thursday, but the overall temperature will remain above seasonal.

However, some extreme heating episodes are resulting in forest fire and emergency service the rescue 1122 has responded those incidents effectively.
