Family of Arlington firefighter who died in Mexico last summer files lawsuit
TARRANT COUNTY, Texas. A little over one calendar year back. Arlington firefighters Elijah Snow and his wife Jamie Snow traveled to a Cancun resort to commemorate their 10th anniversary of marriage.
Jamie Snow didn’t know, this would be her last day with her husband. The firefighter in Cancun Mexico died due to negligence of hotel management.
Blue Diamond Hotels and Resorts
There has been no answer since then. Snow has filed a civil lawsuit against the resort Blue Diamond Hotels and Resorts, RCM Hotel, Sunwing Travel Group, and the travel company Let’s Go On Vacay. The lawsuit outlines multiple charges, including negligence and the wrongful death of his mysterious demise. The firefighter was discovered dead in a theater near the resort.
The Quintana Roo State Attorney’s Office’s authorities, who investigated Snow’s death, announced in a statement released when the death occurred. They said Snow was a victim of mechanical asphyxia caused by thoracic abdominal compression.
The Firefighter in cancun mexico was trapped
The document stated Snow was trapped inside the window while trying to access a bathroom. He could not stand his legs on the floor, leaving Snow no way to let himself out of the window. Quintana Roo authorities said Snow’s death was believed to have been an accident. However, they were looking into what transpired. The lawsuit now claims the death could be more than an accident.
The lawsuit states that the Snows went to the Royalton Chic Cancun Resort & Spa on the 18th of July 2021. Elijah Snow was without his phone after he had forgotten to leave that. It was in the car when he arrived at DFW Airport.
After a long night of drinking in the hotel, Jamie Snow left the bar in the hotel for her room to be in bed. But Elijah Snow stayed behind to finish his drink. It would be the final occasion that Jamie Snow saw her husband alive.
When she woke up, she discovered her husband had gone. The lawsuit says Jamie Snow went searching around the resort for her husband. She also sought assistance from the hotel, soliciting them to contact the police.
Even more perplexing is that even though the hotel invested in RFID bracelets to charge alcoholic beverages to patrons and limit access to their hotel rooms. They failed to use that same technology to locate a missing and possibly dying person,” the lawsuit states. “Even more shocking is that during the delay, it is likely that Elijah was only yards away from Jamie gasping his last breath.”
Cancun Police Department
The woman was later transferred by police at Cancun Police Department The suit claims and was told that her husband had passed away. According to the case, if she asked to look at the body, she was assured that she could not. Later demanded that she see photos of her husband’s corpse for $100 per photo.
The detective had informed Jamie Snow her husband’s death was the result of a “murder without a suspect” as the suit outlines. While they were interviewing her officers, they allowed a variety of funeral directors to approach the services of Jamie Snow.
The lawsuit states that Jamie Snow had to give $300 to police officers to obtain witness statements and photos of the crime scene. However, she was informed that there was no surveillance footage. Many security cameras positioned in the vicinity of the resort were not working. The injuries sustained by Elijah Snow included bruising on both sides of his head. He had numerous injuries to his legs and back and scratches on his hands, face, and arms.
“The injuries she saw did not appear to be consistent with someone who had accidentally become lodged in a window only two feet off the ground,” the lawsuit says. “Further, crime scene photos provided after his death showed Elijah’s face to be covered with dirt and mud as if he had been dragged.”
In addition, the lawsuit claims some of Elijah’s personal belongings were missing. The lawsuit claims hundreds of dollars were taken from his wallet.
Since her return to the U.S.
Jamie Snow has not received any information from the police and hotel. As a result of her numerous inquiries for information on her husband’s demise, as the suit describes. “That information has conflicted with what officers initially told Jamie as well as with clear physical evidence documented at the scene of Elijah’s death,” the suit states. “Reports received to date have failed to address key facts surrounding Elijah’s death. This scene left more questions than answers.
Who killed firefighter in cancun Mexico and why?
Jamie has been unable to verbalize an answer to her family and friends. The suit seeks over $1 million for general punitive and exemplary damages in the case of the wrongful death of Elijah Snow. The charges stem from carelessness on the part of the travel agent and hotel in failing to inform guests in the Snows about the risks in Cancun. As well as negligence in drinking too much and not securing areas within the hotel from the outside. And not contacting the police about the incident on time.
