Departmental store fire, Karachi

A departmental store is a retail establishment offering a wide range of consumer goods in different areas of the store, each area specializing in a product category. People mostly on weekends visit these stores to buy different goods for the upcoming week. The rush days and the happening of these huge fire accidents always result drastically. The recent massive fire in a departmental store in which one man died and three others passed at Chase Up store near Jail Chowrangi in Karachi on Wednesday. The name of departmental store is not clear and reporters are avoiding this. The grocery store safety and competency of authorities are seriously questionable now as the fire took 3 days. The fire erupted in the basement of the store around noon and grew up to the third degree of fire.

The total 3 men who successfully passed out have now been admitted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment. And the dead one’s age is reported about 29 years old with severe burns.

Deployed Resources

Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, is the hub for business communities around the world. But in the incident, a massive fire received about 15 vehicles including fire tenders and water bowsers. Recently started rescue 1122 Sindh also responded at the incident site. So, we can’t say we have absolutely nothing after a massive fire. The deployed resources with inefficient and improper teams can’t produce the required results.

It is evident that the safety measures meaning are not clear to the owner of the building or departmental store. Safety measures or even exit routes for fire safety can avoid at least the casualties of precious human lives which are resulting due to by Pass fire safety. This could be the main reason for any massive fire incident all over the world.

The Authorities of Karachi must learn from the history- On May 27, in the Baldia Town region, a chemical and foam plant burst into massive flames. People were seeing flames from many kilometers as they were so high. The fire department rescued all of the persons trapped inside the godown and took every precaution to put out the fire.

Finally, Sindh Building Control Authority took notice of this massive fire incident and will be inspecting the complex in the coming days for a detailed report. It’s a peak time for authorities to wake up and takes safety measures to prevent future incidents. Working proactively is the need of the hour.
